doing change better, together
Our founding belief
Change will not come by waiting for someone else. Or simply by acting alone. Change will come, when we learn how to change together.
Our reason for being
Working together, we can solve anything.
Some things go without saying
We are living in a time of immense turbulence, challenge and opportunity. That much goes without saying. From creating livelihoods for the millions without one, to the isolation and depression that impacts so many of us at some point in life, to getting to grips with the world's biggest humanitarian crisis - change just isn't happening well enough, or fast enough.
This is who we are
Civic is a change accelerator. We bring together unlikely allies, people-powered ideas and shared assets to help make change happen faster, cheaper, better. We're a fledgling, ambitious, start-up - more a movement than an organisation.
We believe we already have so much of what it takes
1. People-power and the human spirit - an abundance of imagination, talent and the human spirit is to be found everywhere, yet all too often goes unharnessed.
2. Spaces on every street corner in the world - under-utilised places everywhere that with a bit of love and enterprising spirit could become the home for change on every street corner - places of worship, libraries, community centres, the village shop, the supermarket.
3. Business models for change - 1000's of them, whose stories deserve telling and whose models deserve spreading to neighbourhoods everywhere - models to be copied, adopted, adapted, hacked or simply as the inspiration for something more.
This is our emerging story
From East London's Olympic Park, to post earthquake Kathmandu, to the fragile peace of Kabul, to the refugee camps of Jordan, to the Syrian border town of Gaziantep. Civic has seeded a handful of strategic experiments in places with more in common than meets the eye. Everywhere we're invited, we experience the human condition - spritited, enterprising, restless and with the right enabling conditions - drawn always to doing more together, than alone. Each cluster of Civic initiative with its own unique local identity, yet sharing a common pattern, in relationship globally as part of a growing multi-sited change project.
The 'Gaziantep Change Club', an East London guild, Kabul's Hub makers, Jordan's 'Unlikely Allies Agency' - each an alliance as diverse as the corporate executive, the community activist, the venture capitalist, the refugee, the charity founder, the UN agency, the faith leader and the property developer. Civic has become the means by which unlikely allies, the big and the small, the local and the global, can work together - with common purpose. Like a movement. A baby one, but with ambition.
We’ll be sharing much more of our story in the coming weeks.
We’d be delighted to hear from you.
